#312 – Twilight of The Hod: Leave a Message
Aug13
It’s all fun and games until someone loses a wall.
####
Just a quick note. We’ll still be on the once a week updates until at least the end of the month as we work to get ahead on other projects. But I’ll throw another Hod’s Comic out on Friday as thanks for all the votes at the new Buzzcomix website. And as an added bonus, here’s a comic my six year old daughter drew (her first time working in Photoshop). And yes, she knows what a d20 roll is… I make sure my kids learn the important stuff early on. ^_^
–Jeff
lol, thats a pissed off Sif all right.
what is a d20 roll?
heh thats one seriously pissed off sif……boy they’re in trouble now
a d20 roll is when you roll a 20sided die to determine a hit in dungeons and dragons
oh I see, thanks.
Yep, that’s what a d20 roll is. My kids wanted to learn how to play D&D, so once every once (in a great) while when I have time, I’ve been teaching them. My daughter insisted on having a dragon as a player character. And her character absolutely had to have a cat as a familiar. {sniff} I’m so proud.
That is what one might call and ‘Epicly angry Sif.’
And on the note of Epicness, that bonus comic truly falls under the category. Truly, it’s heartwarming to see young people (this coming from an eighteen year old) being taught in the ways of the myth, legend, and Natural 20.
Wow. Sif can wield Mjolnir?!! She must really be pissed. Only Thor and
his son Magni (the god of strength) were supposed to be able to do that…
Love Sif in that last panel. The look evokes the best of Kirby without actually aping his drawing style. Well done!
So very, very, very much the wrong thing to say in Sif’s hearing — in fact, I’d say those were famous last words. Remember, Sif basically kicked everyone’s butt a while back just to get Thor’s respect and attention. As for Sif wielding Mjolnir — Mjolnir may desire it. Also remember that Mjolnir respects Sif (it zapped everone else but her and Thor when they found it again).
WOW! DnD and Photoshop by the age of 6! She’s going to grow up to be awesome! I am also the proud decendent of a dungon master. Dad never taught me though because computer games where getting better and better at the time. I picked it up later in college when a friend dragged me to a game. I never laughed so hard and had so much fun and went back every week (playing with my dads old dice and figures from high school) . Video games can never replace the classic RPGs.
@Martin – You would be correct. Those are the only two who can wield Mjollnir. You’ll find out more about this situation with Sif in the next episode.
@Adurna & @Kit – Thanks. I do what I can to expand the minds of my kids (they don’t really need much help from me… she’s also a master of the Pokemon game, knowing all the strengths and weakness of every creature). Wish I had more time to spend with them sometimes, but the day job doesn’t always allow it.
Hold on… is that BALDER making the cracks at the microphone??
I am so seriously confused, and yet very happy…
Boy does Sif look ready to kick butt and take names.
I know what’s going on with Sif! Oooo! Oooo! Oooo!
Ok, then the alternative is that with Hel and Helheim out of order at the moment, Thor’s spirit hasn’t departed to the realms of the dead — his spirit is now inside Sif (I’m not saying “possessing” Sif, since I think she’s very much in there too — thus the epic level of seriously pissed off Sif).
Hel hath no fury ….
ya know.
What makes you think that Sif will worry about taking names of the blood stains that are left after she is though with the fortress?
Mark S.
Hmm, perhaps rather than Sif possessed by Thor, it’s possible that Magni is present but not due to make an appearance for another 7-8 months?
That was my first guess, but then I realized that would REQUIRE time travel considering the whole end of the world thing…
Perhaps Mjollnir has grown fond of Sif after all of these millenia, or has a desire of its own for vengeance.
Seriously, though – Sif as a beserker over the body of her recently deceased Thor is a force to be reckoned with!!!
I don’t think that is Balder. I checked back on episode 306 for the list of who is on which side, and my guess is Alaunus, since he is the male not wearing horns (Cernunnos) and that we have not seen in a previous episode (Dagda) – and he is a little too tall to be one of the dwarves.
Waiting to see how this plays out. Go get ‘em, Sif!!
@Summer – My wife thought the exact same thing and considering Hod did force Ragnarok to start early, it is a possibility.
@mcubedb – Yep, that’s Future Alaunus. It was supposed to be Cernunnos, but… well… oops. I’m pretty sure Cernunnos is glad we left him out of this one though. Or maybe he knew better and made a last minute switch with Alaunus for some nice, quiet patrol duty.
This is finally pulling back into the feel of the earlier comics.
Looking forward to a resolution that pulls it all together.
@Jeffery: So… you said Hod forced Ragnarok to start early. So this nasty, conniving, mean user-of-others Hod IS our real Hod??? *wails* OK, I’m sure he’s got lots of reasons, given what his family has DONE to him–but–*WAILS* It would mean he’s betrayed the woman he loves, destroyed his parents, messed over his whole family, used his friends, and become a Bad Guy–how could he then come forth in equity and peace with Balder and rule the re-made world in joy?? I’m… so confused.
Or.. is Our Hod somewhere else, a victim all this just waiting for the right moment to avenge all??
Hope springs eternal…
BTW, your daughter’s dragon is cute–and I love the current Hod Comic. He’d probably just freeze the hound in some neat position of attack… but the ‘eeep’ is tres cute.
Thanks for all your hard work, guys!
Just had a thought. Referencing back to comic #310, they have a goddess that is mistress of the realm, whom they were BARELY able to knock out, currently in sonic sleep, and who could be awakened if something goes wrong with the machinery. (The kid gloves comment.) And she will be “seriously cranky” when she wakes up. And they have Sif in Berserker mode with Thor’s hammer entering the front door (after “knocking”) seeking to do serious damage to the fortress and everyone in it.
Want to place odds that Sif’s rampage will awaken the second goddess? (I am thinking 1-to-1) And then what happens when they meet? They could fight and destroy the fortress as collateral damage, team up and REALLY destroy the fortress, or fight then team up. No matter what happens, the fortress has seen its last sunrise, and probably sunset. Hod is certainly going to be “popular” with the ladies today.

I love all these theories! ^_^
umm….forgive my question if it has already been answered…..
but is brat-halla coming to an end? I shall have to put on my mourning hat if so….I love this comic.
ps I support the “sif-is-preggers” theory. =)
@Gboo531 – Nope, Brat-halla isn’t coming to an end anytime soon. I’ve got most of the next big storyline plotted out. It’s called “Backup Dad” and it’s based on a fun idea from my 6-year old daughter. She drew that bonus comic up there. She’s got a pretty wild imagination (I wonder where she gets that from). In fact, she told me the other day she wants to do a 30-page comic based on her dragon character, it’s pet cat, and a troll that sounds like it might wind up being either the dragon’s punching bag or butler (she wasn’t too clear on the troll’s role in the story, but she wanted one in her comic).
She’s scary talented in some ways too. The past couple days, she’s been using my big whiteboard to draw as many pokemon as she can from memory. I count 65 so far (and though I don’t want to admit it, I recognize a lot of them).
Awesome, another tyke learning the “ways”. Ah, if I had one, I would teach them the meaning of “fish” (aka: rolling a one in our group of friends) and how funny it is to laugh at other people who roll “fish”…
Damn, that is one scary Sif. Eep indeed!
I love Sif!
Also support the preggers theory.
Hod was always a troublemaker. That’s why he’s cool!
Where’d Loki get to?
And what are counter measures against the woman with Mjolnir? At the crankiest possible stage of her life possible? (Death of Thor + Morning Sickness = Destruction and Terror of Apocalyptic Magnitude.)
On a side note, Thor is dead
I was almost sad, but the comic is just too funny.
