#340 – Backup Dad: Odineye the Battle Maid
Feb25
Odineye was in the middle of a textbook suit up sequence when things went horribly wrong.

As some of the traditional Marvel comic fans might have noticed, I was inspired by the good ol’ days of Iron Man when Tony Stark carried around a briefcase to hold his armor. Back in the days when everything hi-tech was made from transistors… I was also curious about a warpaint misfire.
Oh, POOR Odineye!! *giggles* I was raised in that same era, and this is just… oh, WIN, serious WIN!!
Thanks for a great start to a cold Wednesday… Hod dear, you know I love you dearly, but this year I can’t WAIT until you go on vacation and Balder steps in with Spring and Summer…
@ Jeffery, and don’t think for a second I didn’t notice the portrait on Hel on the wall back there in the third panel, with the beautifully-placed pic of Hod “gazing” upward right below it… SO nicely done. The background detail is a thing of beauty in this strip.
Credit for the pictures in the background goes completely to Anthony. Lately, Seth has been leaving those picture frames blank and letting Anthony exert his creativity with them (and as you can tell, he’s done some fun stuff with it by using art from past episodes).
Ooops, and of course @ Seth and Anthony and Eschele, too. Mustn’t miss the whole team!
Note for next time: Keep the war paint out of the eyes.
And such a polite and helpful mess.

P.S. In case anyone did not realize it, that “suit up sequence” is almost certainly a homage to the classic Iron Man comics. Before the upgrade to nanotech, he carried his suit in a collapsed form in his briefcase. The chest, gauntlets, boots, and mask were “folded” into a flat form in the briefcase. They obtained rigidity when power was applied and they were worn, and the mail over the arms and legs were stored in the chest, gauntlets, and boots. (And I am old enough to remember those comics.)
Well done.

You are absolutely right with that. I did indeed read those classic Iron Man comics (and I’m pretty sure Seth has too), and this was an homage to them.
The war paint thing came to me because I saw a bunch of cartoons within the span of a week that were all doing the “getting ready to battle” thing and all of them ended their preparations with the application of the warpaint. I thought it would be fun to do that with Odineye as he got caught up in the heat of the moment.
Thank you so much for creating such a delirously fun romp through the Norse Pantheon.
Well… thank you for enjoying it so much and letting us know.
Go IronEye!
